Course 2 Summary

In this course you learned about nursing care priorities when working with patients who have EDS. Importantly, this content was developed based on statements of patients, families and caregivers about what nurses should know to provide safe quality care for them, and presented through the voice of the patient. Patient priorities in their care include their safety, their paint and symptoms and their healthcare experiences, and they have valuable recommendations for nursing care.

In this course, you learned the four principles that should guide the nursing care of patients with EDS::

1. Be gentle, ask and believe

2. Prioritize pain and symptom management

3. Always listen to the patient

4. Individualize patient and family care

While these nursing practices are widely applicable to all types of patient care, they are particularly important when working with these individuals with a long-term, complex condition with many symptoms impacting a variety of body systems. Our hope is that you will take what you have learned here, and apply it in your practice.
